First pregnancy check-up: what to expect?Your first check-up at the practice usually takes place around 9 weeks and lasts about 45 minutes. During this appointment, we’ll ask you and your partner questions about your health. Are there any illnesses or congenital conditions in the family? How did any previous pregnancies or births go? We’ll also offer advice and take a blood sample to check your glucose, haemoglobin (iron levels), hepatitis, syphilis, HIV, blood type, rhesus factor c and D, and any blood type antibodies. If possible, we’ll listen to the baby’s heartbeat using a Doppler. |
Personal pregnancy plan and prenatal screeningUsing the information gathered during this check-up, we’ll create a personal pregnancy plan with you. There will be plenty of time for questions, and we’ll explain what you can expect from us. During the intake, we’ll also inform you about the available tests (if desired) to detect any potential conditions or physical abnormalities in the baby. This is known as prenatal screening. |
